  • Little words, big ideas: Write microcopy that works

Microcopy is all of the small bits of text that guide users through their journey, whether on a web app, mobile app, or even in text messages and beyond. It includes buttons, menus, push notifications, navigation elements, link text, and more, and it’s powerful. Often, technical writers, product managers, designer, even developers end up writing it. In this talk I share theory and practical tips for everyone writing microcopy, no matter your role, with lots of real life examples and data.

  • Writing two sides of one transaction

Two-sided platforms have users offering something on one side and users who want it on the other. Think job seekers and recruiters in LinkedIn, landlords and renters on Airbnb. The value of these products is dependent on bringing both sides together. In this talk I dig into writing microcopy that resonates with multiple audiences at once including different pain points; common terminology; and deciding when it pays to maintain segment-specific versions.

  • Book chat: The Business of UX Writing

I offer talks, masterclasses, and workshops based on my book, The Business of UX Writing. I especially love meeting with teams who are reading the book together, for a live session tailored to their specific context.

  • Collaborating for better content

Content designers have one of the most collaborative jobs there is. A core job competency for us is working with other people synergistically and it’s easier said than done. In this talk I share approaches and techniques for successful collaboration with content designers that can improve productivity in any organization (and life ;)

  • So wrong it's right: When to break best practices

Best practices are shortcuts for writing good copy but they are not fail safes. Every rule has its exceptions and having the experience and confidence to know when and how to break best practices can set you apart. This talk covers what best practices are, when to leverage them, and when to toss them, with plenty of real-life examples.

  • UX writing for technical writers

UX writing and technical writing is not the same thing but often they’re being done by the same person. This talk will help technical writers do the UX writing part better… and who knows, maybe you’ll decide to move over full time :) Either way, the UX writing principles in this talk should increase the efficacy of all types of product content writing.
